Recently, the central Minister Mr. Sudarsana Nachiappan, had stated to the press that the central Goverment can facilitate "Loan" from the Japanese Government for the so-called Monorail project at Chennai, if the State Government requests for the same to the centre , through proper channel.Any self-respecting sane person will only resent at the Minister's comments , given the fact that it is failed technology , incapable of mass haulage / transportation . Should the state / central Governments squander such massive money , ostensibly to enhance the image of "Chennai" just to show off on the map of India , containing mono-rail mode of transport. What he completely forgets is to even mention is the implementation of BG Conversion work between Madurai-Bodi and the track doubling in Villupuram-Dindigul sector. Earlier he was the one who pressed for setting up of a Solar-panel manufacturing Industrial cluster, at the already , industrally-rich Coimbatore , instead of MADURAI. How dare he comfortably ignores this region? can anyone from"Kongu region " act so irresponsibly, do such betrayals in speech and deed and escape unscathed ? see, Who's interest is he upholding anyway, though he is from South. Let us defeat such traitors and detractors , like him , in the forthcoming Parilamentary elections and pledge to elect only those persons who atleast understand , be considerate , and who evince interest in the development of Madurai in particular and South Tamilnadu, as a whole.

Friend don't give much weightage to what EMS talks about. Within the last 6 to 8 months after coming to power, he had talked about so many things. He is never serious. Looks like he is also keen on advertisement. As a whole we should give least consideration to TN politicians specially if they are from congress. What did PC did except opening bank branches and ATM's. What Jayanthi did? Nothing. Compare them with what Kerala Ministers are doing for their state. We should take the words of TN ministers with a pinch of salt.

With the gradual extension of electrical haulage of trains to Madurai upto Kanyakumari, absolute need is felt for opening up of an Electric Loco shed for repairs and overhauling at Madurai Junction. Also if the frequency of extant Madurai-Dindigul, passenger train is increased, the public will be immensely benefited. Completion of Madurai-Bodi BG railway line has been a long pending demand. will these genuine demands be raised and realised atleast in the forth coming Parliamentary election? will the contestants realise the importance of these causes? let us forumers urge in personal capacity atleast when the candidates come to us during electioneering / campaigns, please.

Dehradun-Chandigarh Weekly to run as bi-weekly from March 30

Quote:
MADURAI: The Madurai - Dehradun - Chandigarh Weekly Express will be converted into a bi-weekly service starting from March 30. With this, the Madurai railway division of the Southern Railway would complete operation of all of the trains announced in the previous railway budget (2013-14). Senior officials from the division had earlier announced all the trains announced in the 2013-14 railway budget will be operated by March end.

According to an official statement from the Southern Railway, the frequency of train No. 12687/22687 & 12688/22688 Madurai - Dehradun/Chandigarh - Madurai express will be increased from Weekly to Bi-weekly with effect from March 30. Train No. 12687/22687 Madurai - Dehradun/Chandigarh Express will leave Madurai every Wednesdays and Sundays. The first additional service will commence from Madurai on Sunday (March 30). In the return direction, train No. 12688/22688 Dehradun/Chandigarh - Madurai Express will leave Dehradun/Chandigarh on Mondays and Fridays. The first additional service will commence from Dehradun/Chandigarh on April 4.

The weekly service from Madurai to Dehradun/Chandigarh commenced from Madurai in May 2013 after Chennai - Dehradun/Chandigarh Weekly Express was extended till Madurai. In the last railway budget, it was announced that the service will be turned into a Bi-weekly.

N Jegadeesan, member of Zonal Rail Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) and president of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the announcement stating the train is beneficial to people trying to reach to northeast. "In fact, we have been trying to get more trains to northern destinations like Jodhpur due to the demand among passengers. It will be helpful for the traders also who are looking out for business in the northeast. Besides, this train also connects Madurai to the eastern coast," he said. With the weekly service converted into a bi-weekly, the rail users' forum will seek increasing its frequency three to four times in the coming years, Jegadeesan added.

The Madurai railway division has bagged the inter-divisional overall efficiency - Best Division - award for its performance and earnings in the last financial year. Subsequently, the revenue of the division has also shot up during that period.

Delivering his address at 59{+t}{+h} railway week celebrations on Wednesday, divisional railway manager, A K Rastogi announced that the division recorded a growth of 10% in overall earnings and 15% in passenger earnings as compared to the previous fiscal. The total originating earnings for the year 2013-14 is Rs 576.29 crore as against the 2012-13 actual of Rs 523.68 crore. The passenger earning was Rs 389.98 crore as against Rs 338.70 crore for the previous year. Following the strict action taken against passengers travelling without proper tickets, the division has realised Rs 2.84 crore in ticket checking earnings. The commercial publicity earnings accounted to Rs 3.94 crore showing a 13% increase over the last year, Rastogi said.

With the intention to provide more passenger facilities for the rising passenger numbers, the division has completed amenity work estimated at Rs 6.37 crore during last year. On the punctuality front, the division achieved 96.2% for express and mail trains and 96.8% for passenger trains against the target of 96 per cent. "This was possible because of the hard work and outstanding contribution by the running staff and better maintenance of track and other infrastructure by our staff," he said. The division also managed to introduce new trains including the Palani - Chennai Central Express, Manamadurai - Chennai Egmore Silambu Express, Tuticorin - Chennai Egmore Link Express,

Rameswaram - Coimbatore Weekly Express, Puducherry - Kanyakumari Weekly Express,

Palani- Tiruchendur passenger, Tirunelveli - Shencottah passenger, Punalur - Guruvayur passenger and Tirunelveli - Kanyakumari passenger. Several trains were also extended to various parts of the division, while some of the trains' frequency was increased during the last financial year .

Cash awards and merit certificates were distributed to officers and stations for their performance and maintenance. Railway school students performed cultural events during the celebrations.

A premium superfast Madurai - Jaipur weekly train is now running for a limited period (till July 1, 2014). It has only 6 stoppages - Trichy, Chennai, Vijayawada, Nagpur, Bhopal & Jaipur. The ticket fare will rise as it nears the departure date. No tatkal is available, as the fare itself rises beyond tatkal rates!

Here is the time table. http://indiarailinfo.com/train/timetable/12781/790/272

Now that the elections are over and with the new Government installed at the centre, we shall reiterate our demands concerned with Madurai Division:-
1) Expedite the Laying of BG line between Madurai-Bodinaickanur and restart the railway services .
2) Expedite the ongoing track doubling work in Villupuram-Dindigul and extend electrified haulage to Tuticorin, Tirunelveli from Madurai.
3) Introduce Push-Pull passenger train services in Madurai-Dindigul andf Madurai-Virudhunagar sectors.
4) Allocate funds for Preliminary / Detailed Survey for laying of a new railway line Connecting Madurai-Karaikudi via Melur, Tiruppattur.
5) Introduce more superfast Daytime train services in Madurai-Chennai and Madurai-Bangalore sectors.
Kudos to Madurai Division for the stellar performance in Railway operations.

New Railway minister is insisting on states providing land at free of cost and sharing 50% of the project costs. In such a scenario, I don't expect any big allotment for no's 1 and 2. Since our state govt wont share cost specially when it comes to something to do with Madurai, we will never get to see Madurai-Bodi train again
