Vadapalanji case is still worse. Actually few big software developers booked 50 acre each to set up development centre. Due to various issues including state govt's chalta hai type attitude resulted in zero take off

when it comes to matters concerning Madurai , the lack of interest, drive , allocation, planning and execution of projects for development are appalling. TN Govt / ELCOT were slipshod in their planning and instead of including the STPI (as was the case with Chennai Taramani and coimbatore TIDEL Parks ), proceeded to implement the projects themselves , deliberately bent upon , trying to make the venture, a failure. it was the Govt's lack of interest , wrong policies ,erroneous planning and complacency that resulted in such a fiasco.

Shiv Nadar owned HCL will soon be setting shop at the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) IT Park in Vadapalanji, Madurai.

The allotment was made long back and HCL has just given the confirmation.

“HCL has confirmed that it will take 60 acres of land in the Vadapalanji IT Park,” said a senior official at ELCOT Chennai who did not want to be quoted. “We got the confirmation last week,” he added.

The proposed investment on this venture at the temple city could not be ascertained. HCL could not be reached for comments.

Another official with the ELCOT, Madurai, said, “The development is still in its initial stages and there are host of procedures before work can begin.” Spread over 239.58 acres, the IT park, which is located near the Madurai Kamaraj University, got its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) notification in April 2008.

Meanwhile, the IT Park at Ilandhaikulam, which resumed operations in 2014, will be fully functional by this April. The park was kept under lock as there were no takers. It was inaugurated in 2011.

Always first step is more important. If HCL sets up on a 60 acre campus then within two years the whole campus will be taken over by other big and small software companies. So let us hope and wish the news item is true.

Also since HCL is delhi based, once they come up there will be fair no of people movement (executives & others visiting madurai centre) which will help madurai-delhi flight service also

^^ HCL has already been allotted land of 60 acres in Vadapalanji in last DMK period itself. It was a very big plan they had at that time.

Let's hope they revive it because I don't want to believe government and it's agents like elcot officials.

there is a way out to get some information on this project from company itself. All we have to do is, buy few shares in this company. As a shareholder you will get the annual report before the AGM. ( AGM normally takes place in may/june for companies having march as financial year end). Shareholders can raise any question about the company's operations, profit & loss account, future plans and so on either in person or through post. Using that facility, we can send a question to the company referring the news item appeared in paper. Company is bound to respond to shareholders queries. This way, we will get to know whether TN govt person talked in Air or it is really true.

I personally feel, state govt just bluffed keeping in mind global investor conference in may. I hope I am wrong

^^ if they have to start their construction, they have to get co-developer status approved from Ministry of Commerce like how Honeywell and Chella did.

We can track the development through their documents.

IT industry picks up in Madurai

There is good news for students of information technology (IT) and Computer Science here who do not want to leave their home city for jobs outside. The IT industry, which is picking up pace everywhere, has grown considerably in Madurai in the last year.

After a slugging period that lasted a couple of years, startup companies are finally finding their feet in the city. Out of the 40 or so startups that have come up in the last few years, at least 20 have managed to survive through the initial hiccups. Even established companies that have branches in other cities and locations abroad are coming to the city.

According to experts, the talent pool here is the reason why companies are attracted to Madurai. Graduates fresh out of college here are as talented as the ones in bigger cities, lacking only soft skills. Companies coming here are ready to provide them the training to increase their potential, observers said.

On Thursday, Vernalis, a software solution-provider which has offices in New York, Toronto, London, Cologne and Melbourne, among others, launched its branch in the city. The company deals with the sports industry and focuses mainly on IT services. Bala Chandra, the chief executive officer, remarked that the talent available in Madurai and down south was the one of the reasons why they came down here.

"Sixty per cent of employees working in IT companies in Chennai and Bangalore are from Madurai or other southern districts. But around 20% of them quit for personal reasons and settle in their native places. We don't want to lose talent," he said.

R K Jeyabalan, vice president of Software Industries Development Association of South Tamil Nadu, said the IT scenario here was improving. Many foreign countries, including the United States, have come out of the economic meltdown and have started investing in information technology. Companies in Madurai are reaping the benefits by working alongside bigger companies. However, the same cannot be said for Indian companies, he said.

The number of people working in the IT industry here is also growing. As of now, around 3,000 to 4,000 people are working in the sector in Madurai alone. Companies in other towns in down south are also faring well, Jeyabalan said. The IT parks here are getting a lot of takers. The space available there is mostly occupied now, he said.

R Sivarajah, founder of Nativelead Foundation, a Madurai-based organisation which helps people start businesses and build brands, said that although the industry is back on track, the focus is slowly turning from services to products and this is a good sign, he said.

While it is good news that the IT sector in Madurai city continues to grow , despite in a modest pace, it can still be improved. The "Dhaya" cyber park near the integrated bus stand , remains vacant and a non-starter , inhibiting other new entrants , to the city. so it's better Mr. Alagiri do something worth or quit.
