Almost all of the important roads , in Madurai city are severely damaged . Neither the corporation nor the Highways authorities have bothered to repair / renovate the city roads, resulting in accidents and a backbreaking journey. Since assembly election is approaching , will the SG authorities / MMC ever take any action to repair these roads.

Collector L. Subramanian has invited entrepreneurs to start micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the district .

With the State targeting Rs. 25,000 crore investments, Madurai district was looking at investments of around Rs. 500 crore.

The District Industries Centre (DIC) was examining ways to encourage existing entrepreneurs to expand, diversify and modernise their industries and identify neo-entrepreneurs.

Madurai, with a strong base in agro-industries, engineering, food processing, rubber products, had potential in other sectors such as hospitals and laboratories, cold storage facilities etc.

The officials would play the role of catalysts by identifying land, preparing project and feasibility reports, arranging loans and offering subsidies.

Further details could be had from the General Manger of the District Industries Centre on Alagarkoil Road.

The State and central Governments should act as promoters and facilitators of industrial growth and investment here at Madurai. our Madurai region has long been denied and discriminated against a lot of other places and we certainly deserve to be treated better. if and only some mega investments like BHEL, OFB, Railway Coach Factory and such labour intensive heavy industries come up , it will catalyse growth and attract alround investment. will the SG atleast direct / channelise some of the proposed industrial ventures pouring into the stste , towards Madurai? this what we expect the least from the Govt of Today.

Lately, looking newspapers, there appear aplenty tender notices, for various works in the SG departments like the Municipal corporations, Highways, the PWD, etc in Chennai,Kovai, Erode, Salem and even the modest Thanjavur, Tirunelveli & Tuticorin, whereas nothing about developmental works is observed in our Madurai region. the MMC has gone into deep slumber. The situation we notice in Madurai are battered potholed main roads, unreliable drinking water supply, dark road stretches, overflowing drains , littered parks, disused / misused public spaces, traffic congestion , parking violation and so forth. the Corporation as well as the District administration has come to a standstill. it is heart rending and outrageous to see this sorry state of affairs in Madurai . as ever the media (both press and T.V) are never reporting this gross neglect.

A couple of days ago the State Industries Minister Mr Velumani, has mentioned about the smart city project proposals to be implemented at Coimbatore. Although our "Madurai" too is to be developed as a smart city, there are no concrete proposals about the development and investments to be attracted to Madurai. this is because of the lack of awareness, lack of interest and lack of knowledge on the part of the public and this region's disreputable politicians. whenever the SG talks of industries and development , Madurai is never considered and is totally ignored. so the educated youth here, have to migrate to Chennai, B'lore, Hyd'bd and the lesser Coimabtore too . what a shame for us. we should create awareness among the people of this region and struggle hard to achieve industrial growth and development. otherwise even smaller cities and towns are bound to overtake our 'MADURAI'. Let us forget our old glories and surge ahead to see progress in our beloved city of Madurai.

It is observed that even all the essential works for the upkeep of the city, by the corporation of Madurai are suffering and the public are facing severe hardship. Almost are roads are badly damaged, street drains are overflowing, main roads are flooded and turn muddy even for light rains, garbage is piling up and stinking, the Integrated bus stand is in shambles with unhygienic, full of encroachments, haphazard parking, damaged street lights , menace of stray dogs in all localities and problems galore. with several crores of taxes collected and project funds for various schemes , it is intriguing the corporation has done and not doing anything worthy. all the the bureaucrats and politicians , in charge of the corporation administration have gone into a deep inaction and are teeming with corruption . Though our Madurai was the second city to have a Municipal corporation after Chennai, we are far lagging behind in terms of infrastructure and faclilities. Kovai is to have a Development Authority soon and works are afoot. But when is Madurai going to have one which it deserves. Madurai has been growing , whatever little without any Government support , with its own strength. While Kovai owing to industrialists and big business lobby has always grabbed all the facilities, lack of such a farsighted plan of action is missing among our Maduraiites. but still we have to fight hard, to overcome all the odds and to make our Madurai an economically strong , sustainable and developed city.

About three years ago they did drainage work in nethaji road. Even after three years corporation didn't fix the road. This is one of the sample. Same goes to elis nagar and by-pass road.

The District Collectorate building at Madurai, is in a serious state of disrepair. This derelict building is severely damaged and has had many small fire accidents , in the past four years. All the sections / offices housed there are very crammed, disorganised . the whole ambience is in shambles. it is intriguing why none of the District Collector's who have worked there have yet realized this problem and recommended for the construction of an integrated collectorate building. it is indeed surprising not even Mr. Sahayam has ever proposed to pull down this old building and to construct a building anew. it is one of the crucial demands , a new collectorate complex , before everything alse can be demanded , for our city.hope this resonates with the public too.

Will the authorities of Madurai, the District Collector and the Commissioner of the Madurai Corporation , take action to rename the ill-meaning , distasteful name of the Integrated Bus stand of "Mattuthavani', into something graceful , bearing the name of our national leaders / freedom fighters? this name in itself has long been a slur and disgraceful to the image of our Madurai city.hope it is changed, soon.

It is now amply evident , that our city Municipal corporation had plunged into paralysis. Roads, toilets, public amenities, drinking water, hospitals, schools, bus stands, parks, storm water drains , road lighting, corporation buildings almost all are in a state of disrepair amd messy. the whole corridors of Mattuthavani are encroached by hawkers, with stinking toilets at the bus stand exit, all these are causing heavy inconvenience to passengers. yet the wards members, councilors, Mayor, corporation officers, engineers, staff , all alike don't even care to do anything. with the election mode creeping in , they are all in a blissful refrain, like buffaloes wallowing in muddle. on the other hand Coimbatore, chennai corp[oration tenders for various amenities / works regularly appear every week , in newspapers. how deplorable and we are all fretting and fuming at our helplessness. what a pity ! our poor Madurai.

It's highly disappointing that Madurai has not been chosen to be developed as a smart city in Tamilnadu, among the first 20 list of cities , released today by the Ministry of Urban Development. again a big pattai & namam for pur Madurai city.

It is appalling to see only coimbatore and chennai alone being promoted as smart cities in the first phase. how long will all these successive CG & SG keep cheating us? doesn't our Madurai deserve growth and development? it is iomply atrocious and criminal to repeatedly deny growth and industrialisation of Madurai. we too are paying all sorts of taxes to these govts and they are still not heeding. it is a pity most maduraiites , don't even realise let alone resent or protest against this injustice. only way out is to have a separate state of south Tamilnadu carved out with Madurai as capital. these wretched politicians and bureaucrats are all out to keep Our Madurai backward and undeveloped. they use this place to conduct political shows of strength, for religious festivals, bloody barbaric jallikattu to keep us down perpetually. but when it comes to creating new industries, infrastructure development, amenities, trade & commerce promotion, they cleverly exclude our city Madurai, and keep on everything for cni, cmb, try, pdk, and what not. it is very disheartening even the press, electronic media don't highlight this discrimination of Madurai.
